This in April 1998 founded Union of Ferret lovers has as main goal to inform beginners about the caretaking and keeping of ferrets. And the exchange of knowledge and experience. The Union also has a shelter for mistreated, no longer wanted and sick ferrets and tries to find new home's for these ferrets amongst members of the union. 'Frettig gestoord' also helps members with vacation addresses and pups. For the members the Union also provides information about the ferret and Contact with other Ferretly insane people, four time's a year you will receive the union newsletter "Het Mokje". Twice a year there is a meeting. This is for everyone, the members and their ferrets this is of course free of charge. On the internet there is an E-mail list, were one can exchange info with other members and of course there is also a homepage of the union, http://home.wanadoo.nl/fretten
The Union also is to be found frequently on animalshows and exhibitions. Has good contacts with the Sophiavereniging and other organizations. In short a lively union who has much to offer for Ferret and owner.
The Ferretshelter is to be found in Veenendaal and is run by Joke Bakkens. The Shelter is registered with the national Animal protection in Den Haag. The shelter works together with Animal clinic "De Vallei" in Woudenberg. Joke is being assisted by one of the Vets. The shelter, whish costs a lot of money is sponsored by Hope Farms, a supplier of animalfood. A Ferret comes into the shelter by a private person, Someone who no longer wants to take care of their ferret, they might do so free of charge, but the ferret has to be inoculated. If they can not show an inoculation book, a small amount is asked to inoculate the ferret. An other way ferrets find their way to the shelter is through an organization. For these ferrets there are other rools, you can ask for them at the shelter. The Ferret gets a health check at animal clinic "De Vallei". Here the ferret is also inoculated if necessary and gets, if needed, medical treatment. After having spend some some time in the shelter they will be found a new owner. The now owner has to be or willing to become a member of the Ferretunion "Frettig Gestoord" and the ferret will always stay the property of the union. This means that if after a while it turns out that it does not work out between the Ferret and its new owner, this ferret will have to come back to the shelter. The new owner may not sell the ferret of give it away to a third party.
