We hope it never happens, but our ferret can become sick. this can be a simple cold, a bit of diarrhoea or vomiting. The ferret is usualy better very quick, the cause could be anything, a new brand of food, a fluevirus, of maybe the ferret just is not having its day. Unfortunatly the ferret knows some serious diseases also, disease from wich a ferret, even with good medication, can die. Some diseases wil show themselfs when it's too late, others can be recognised in an early statium by the symptoms, for instance diarrhoea, listlesness or not wanting to eat. Other diseases can be easily prevented, you can think of bonemarrow disease.
Manny books and thesis are already written about diseases ferrets can get, and many diseases can be treated well. Is is however important to go to a Vet who knows about ferrets diseases and their treatments. Not evry Vet who is able to castrate a ferret or knows how to treat earmites, als knows how to treat insulinoma.
The next pages are not ment as a medical guide. They only give some insight in what a certain diseas is and what the symptoms are. Alway's go to a good Vet when you notice one or more of the symptoms. Don't panic right away if your ferret is caughing or has diarrhoea for a day or two.
