Education
| Gloria Coates was born into a musical and inventive family and started improvising, singing and composing at a very
early age. In 1952 Gloria Coates met Alexander Tcherepnin, who was to remain her mentor.
Afterwards she studied
with him at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria (1962) as well as privately. She also studied at Louisiana State
University and with Otto Luening and Jack Beeson at Columbia University. |
