Courage Highway, a memorial for
Terry Fox

Travelling from Nipegon in the direction of
Thunderbay. It's still Yongestreet, It's still highway 11 but somehow it's
different. Different not only because of the signs saying "Courage Highway" but by
what it stands for. It stands for a unique man. Terry Fox. A man who had cancer
he was still in his twenties. The disease got him so bad, he had to loose a leg.
After the doctors set him free with his prothesis and a chance to live on,
Terry walked through the ward of the hospital and saw so much people infected by
this disease that he decided to raise a fund. He decided to run. A run
which would lead him trough 5 provinces He started in St. John at the
ocean waterfront. That's where he dipped his prothesis in the ocean and started
running. 40 kilometers every day. By the time he reached Thunder Bay, the
cancer in his body was back. He had to stop. A year later he died. On the
pictures you see the memorial that was put up after he died. Every year there's
a memorial day for Terry Fox where they raise money and run.
