The wonderful world of Frank Winnubst
RENEWED SITE! FRESH DUTCH STORIES!
Winter has come to an end and I'm trying to combine work with private
life. Sometimes I think: "I'm getting mad...". Or better: "They
are driving me mad". But really, I let it happen, so nobody else is to
blame. I'm 47 years old and time rushes by in an attempt to overtake the speed
of my life. And life has been calm and easy in the past...
It’s over 6 years since we returned from Ethiopia, where I got frustrated
because progress was too slow. There isn’t much to remind us of our lives in
Addis Ababa, let alone our years in Kampala, Uganda. I'm working at Atos
Origin, coordinating the transfer and integration of staff in outsourcing deals
and acquisitions. I'm posted at a group called Strategic Sourcing & Bid
Management, and we are managing the major outsourcing deals of Atos Origin.
After working in human resource management in Philips and Origin, and in
essential drugs management in Uganda and Ethiopia, I'm working in a commercial environment
now, and I must say: I love it (when I don't hate it)! Josette is working
part-time at the department of lung diseases in our local hospital, the same
place where she used to work in the nineteen-eighties. So we've both returned
to our former employers and colleagues. And we are both engaged in scholarly
activities in the evening hours. Josette is taking cultural studies at the Open
University and I'm teaching sociology at the Gerlach Institute.
Daan still attends the international school in Eindhoven where he follows the
regular Dutch curriculum but is getting English as a secondary language. Johan
and Heleen are attending secondary school. It's not only me growing older...
During our stay in Africa I regularly sent an electronic letter to our
friends, family and colleagues. Most of them are available here in Dutch. Some
of them are translated in English and I publish them all on these webpages.
Occasionally I'm writing and publishing a new letter with comments on life in
Holland. This way these pages can gradually turn into a commentary that started
as the first electronic literature. Just choose the language you prefer to read (most are in Dutch, though).
