"Three artists, three different ways of looking at our world." Apart from that, I never saw any work of art getting so close to my idea of what contemporary art should be as the works of these three artists.

EindhovenIstanbul is an imaginary city where opposites meet. Eindhoven, the relatively small, western European city that was built mostly in the last century, meets the eastern, ancient and large Istanbul. The art-collection of the Van Abbemuseum is being confronted with works of art from the Istanbul biennale; the transient character of the biennale meets the contemplative, preserving atmosphere of the museum. This concept of oppositions is used in several ways in the exhibition, in which the experienced art watcher finds himself continuously surrounded by dynamics.

Although Dutch and Belgian people are neighbors,  share a common history and are culturally related, they don't get along all the time. This year it is exactly 175 years ago when the United Kingdom of the Netherlands fell apart and Belgium became an independent state. This exhibition shows the tumultuous origin of the current states of Belgium and the Netherlands and investigates how both states sought to find their own identities after 1830. In order to make friends again, Belgian visitors get free entrance to the exhibition. From 3 February - 30 April 2006, this exhibition is shown in the Predikherenkerk in Leuven (B).
