This bot is build in small seperate units. Each unit gets its signal from the previous unit with a small delay in time. This BEAM snake uses normal standard servos, and is working with pulse width variation. All this is done with only one IC ( 74HC74). Inside the head it wil have the master puls unit and a two channel RC receiver. I want to make it RC controlled.
The brown pieces at the bottomside give the snake some vertical flexibility so it won't have problems with not so flat surfaces.
It has allready moved several times in my hobbyroom. It looks great but at the moment I still have some problems with disturbance. Each unit works oké, but with using more ( I have now built 7 ) there is a some influence, I can't get out at the moment. Tried several solution without any luck. Have to think about this some time. Because of the seperate units you can make it as long as you want. Remember that it is moving forward just by the left-right movement; so no motor on the wheels is used, as can be seen in the pictures.
