My brother Harm, wanted to buy a "project" for some years until he ran into an old Finn dinghy last Autumn.
A cold moulded Finn dinghy which was build back in 1961 !

We had a look at the boat on a dark and cloudy autumn day and with the last glimp of daylight decided to buy the boat.

Next Saturday we went to pick up the boat.

First all of the hardware was removed and the boat was stripped of paint and varnish, to get a clear picture of the condition of the hull.

Main problems:

bulletThe cold moulded hull appeared to be delaminated at a lot of places.
The deck was in a bad condition.

Solutions:

bulletThe hull was given back it's strenght by injecting epoxy wherever delamination was spotted.
A small hole was drilled, through the first layer of veneer.
After epoxy was injected, the veneers were pulled together, using temporarily iron wires.

The deck was beyond repair, a new deck of 3 mm. mahogany ply was laid.

For anyone interested in the restauration, Pictures are available.

The result, after almost 2 years of work, is impressing !
