Warning: this story contains some shocking details.Subject: Lisa Crocker Date: 10/02/2003
Hi Marion,
We found Lisa through an internet ad in June of 2003. We mostly communicated with her over the internet but I did speak to her over the phone twice. We purchased a Havanese from her but the first contract she sent us was for a Coton de Tulear. I spoke to her about this and she said she sent me the wrong one so she sent me a new one for Havanese and it had a different kennel name on it. The coton one was Elite Cotons and the havanese one was Stargazer.
We were told there were several champions in her pedigree but when I would ask her to email me a copy of anything (pedigree, parents akc papers etc.) she would say we don't normally give out that information before you purchase the dog but if you would like me to I can try and then she would leave it for me to ask again for that info which I didn't. She did send pictures of what she claimed to be the puppys parents and pictures of the puppy but when we recieved Meg I was suprised she didn't seem to be colored like the pictures she sent us. I just figured pictures aren't always real accurate especially over the internet.
We paid 1800 which was supposed to be full akc registration price. She told us the puppies parents were registered with AKC, UCKI, FCI and ARBA. We recieved the contract and because I was a bit leary I wrote to her asking her if she could sign it and then I would sign it and send it back to her. She seemed to be irritated with me and I just thought maybe I was being too paranoid. She signed it and emailed us a copy we signed it and transfered the money into Sandra Marlows account which she said was her mother?
After she got her money she then informed us she co-owned the litter with her friend Anna and that Anna handles all the registration papers so she couldn't tell me for sure if Anna already had the puppies registered or if I would need to do that. Then I inquired about when she thought the puppy would be shipped and she said it was too warm that the airlines would not ship her. I kept looking up the weather for TN which is where Lisa is from and after almost a week the heat just didn't seem as if it would let up there so I decided my mom, my daughters and I would take a trip to TN to pick her up. When I contacted Lisa about my plans she said she would talk to Anna and see if they could get her shipped the next day. Well Meg came with only a vet ok for shipping and a rabies certificate. We were suprised to find on the shipping tag that she came from Lisa's friend Anna Frumina who lives in "Pennsylvania". And like I said we were suprised at her coloring compared to the pictures we were sent of her but then we also thought the pictures could have been of her when she was younger (she was about three months old when we purchased her) and she could have faded as the Havanese coats can do. I forgot to mention around the time we found out she co-owned the litter, after we wired her the money, she told us she just bought a house and she is in the process of moving or otherwise she would just keep the puppy "the puppy we believe now was actually in the hands of this Anna Frumina." In Lisa's last contact with us she asked us to send pictures of our puppy as she got older. I emailed Lisa the night we got Meg to let her know that she arrived safely and asked her if she could email me her shot information that she claimed Meg had, but we never got a response. I tried contacting Lisa by her cell phone number which was no longer in service and I tried calling this Anna several times, I would just get an answering machine with no name on the outgoing message. I left a message asking for a return call regarding Megs shots but never heard anything back. Our vet recommended that we should just go ahead and vaccinate her. She was very sensitive to the shots and was so sore the next couple days.
The realization of the scam came when I typed in the name Anna Frumina and what I read about her gave me a terrible sinking feeling in my heart. I couldn't read alot because it was just so terrible but the worst I read was that she had a sick puppy that she needed to get rid of so she tied it up by some of her bigger more ferocious dogs and let them take care of it. If that isn't enough to make a person want to cry. I have attached the pictures of the dogs she claimed are the parents of our puppy. We were scammed, in that we never recieved any registration papers, but Meg seems healthy and she has such a sweet disposition so we're very happy with her. When I see her with my children and how much they love her already and she loves them I know she is happy here and safe and that makes the whole ordeal easier for us to accept. Good Luck with your lawsuit, if you don't mind let us know how it's going and if you need anything else just let us know.
Thanks, Anon.
