She is being investigated by Palm Beach County Animal Control
for puppy brokering and improper licensing.
Details:
I
responded to her ad in the August 31, 2003 Palm Beach Post. In
our phone conversation prior to the appointment she stated that
the puppies father is an international champion who is FCI
registered, has a 5 generation pedigree and is current (2/03) on
all his CERF's (international dog eye registry confirming no
congenital defects, cataracts, etc.). She said the mother was
FCI registered as well and current on CERF's .She said the
parents were not AKC registered because they both were born
overseas and were never shown in the USA. She did say that my
puppy would be AKC registerable with the FCI pedigree.
Upon
arrival at her home, she had 2 male puppies for sale. She showed
me the supposed mother. I reconfirmed what she had said on the
phone regarding health, pedigree, registration and she said she
would give me copies of supporting documents. She proceeded to
show me pictures on her laptop of the champion father and the
mother in full coat.
She
told me that she was a hobby breeder, which by definition in the
Florida Puppy Lemon Law means she has less than 2 litters per
year or 20 dogs sold. She said she has had Havanese for only a
couple of years, her experience has been with a related dog
breed called Coton du Tulear. We signed contract with the
understanding that I was purchasing a companion with show
potential and would receive the puppies full registration when I
had him altered. I wrote her a check for the amount of
$1300.After leaving with the puppy, I realized she had not
supplied me with the parents pedigree, and CERF registration.
I
contacted the Veterinarian on the health certificate and they
indicated that Michael Crocker brought several breeds of dogs in
on the date on the certificate. This contraindicated her
statement that she only had Havanese and Coton du Tulears. I
then did a search on the internet under Lisa Crocker and found
17 pages of individuals that were looking for her for criminal
activity related to dog sales.
That
evening I went to her home with a witness, Chip, to ask for
proof of pedigree and health certification or she needed to
refund my money and take the puppy back. She refused and was
extremely aggressive and threatening. I left stating I would be
back with the police and then she produced the fake registration
(attachment D). She said I could verify everything on the
parents with their names on this certificate. She said the
registration was what is used to register the puppy with FCI and
once registered, she could submit the paperwork for registry
with APR. I asked her again to refund my money. She refused.
I
contacted FCI, APR, Havanese Club of America, all of which
support that she does not have purebred, pedigreed, health
screened Havanese as she contractually sells. I contacted
several of the individuals on the internet that have lawsuits
and active investigations. Lisa and Michael Crocker use several
aliases, different kennel names, move frequently, ship dogs via
different airports and are a definite flight risks. She moves
frequently.
As
a concerned citizen, I know I will probably never see my money
returned. I have uncovered so much about Lisa and Michaels
illegal activities. I am concerned about the depth of these
activities and some agency needs to look not only at one
individual offense, but the repeated criminal activity and see
that they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
