Friday,
November 14, 2003 And yet another Lisa Crocker victim: Hi, my name is Pam, and although my dealings with Lisa Crocker were not over a long period of time I fell for her puppy scam as well.
I saw Lisa's ad under Terrific Pets.com and e-mailed her to inquire about what she had available. She e- mailed me back the next day saying she had some beautiful cream and white Havanese puppies and for me to call her. I called her that same day Sunday the 21st. of September and explained to her that I was looking for a Havanese puppy for my son, who had just completed treatment for leukemia. The puppy needed to be well socialized with children because I have a 7 yr. old son and a 3 yr. old daughter. She said to come over that night since I was local, I live in Miramar and she was in West Palm Beach and I could see the puppies and the parents.
Upon arriving at her house I was introduced to two male puppies and their "mother". She said the mother was FCI registered and CERF'S were current. She said the Father of the puppies was not available at the time because he was doing a stud service that night. She showed us a picture of him which is also on her Havanese website and said he was also FCI registered and both were champion show dogs and they were imported from France. She said I would get the papers on the puppy in a few weeks because they were to be mailed from France. She said after I got the papers I could register him with AKC if I wanted to.
She told me that the Havanese Club of America had asked her to join and even wanted one of her puppies. She said she was a "private" hobby breeder and that she bred for good health, temperament, eye's CERF'd and patella's checked.
I signed the agreement and wrote her a check for 1,300.00. Funny, the first sentence in the agreement said "puppy will come in good health upon arrival". On the way home the puppy was coughing and I immediately called Lisa the next morning. I was told not to take the puppy to the vet that she would give me some antibiotics for him. I took him to the vet anyway and the first question I was asked by the vet was "did you get this puppy from a puppy mill"? He was put on Clavamox, Theophylline elixir, and Hydrocodone for 2 weeks.
On Oct. 21st I e-mailed Lisa with numerous concerns. The puppy was aggressive, did not want to play with the kids, looked like a Maltese, and at 15 weeks just weighed almost 3 lbs. and I still had not received any papers. She did not respond. I called and left several messages on her recorder but she never responded to them either.
On Sunday November 9th I went to Lisa's home and she and her family had moved. The owner of the home was there cleaning up his home as they had trashed it. When I got home I typed in Lisa Crocker on Yahoo Search and that is how I found out I was not the only person she had done this to. The Animal Network Forums had a list of people she had scammed all over the U.S. and the list will continue to grow if she is not stopped.
Sincerely,
Pam
