The survey below was kept since I bought the BMW F650 new in November 1994. To get a clear view a difference is made between riding-costs and side-costs.

• Riding costs - Give the costs of keeping your bike technically healthy and may vary the way people ride.
• Side costs - These are the costs of insurance, road assistance and taxes. Apart from the taxes these costs are variable.

The items in the list marked with a 's' I did myself. By doing so expensive time in the BMW garage (the BMW working unit of 1 PE is 5 minutes time and costs about f 8) was saved. Besides it is fun to do some maintenance yourself. At first I was anxious to do things myself - afraid doing something wrong. I discovered that most tasks are not difficult at all. More and more I want to do maintenance myself. Help from fellow bikers is always nearby through the usenet newsgroups.
