In the Netherlands we have a womans magazine called VIVA. This week there is an article about the "mans cave". My sim is one of the 3 mans caves. The other 2 guys have a home cinema and a slotcar track.

november 7 and 8 2009 (FS weekend)

This weekend I visited the fsweekend in the aviationmuseum Aviodrome at Lelystad airport. I have been there with the other guys from the dutch flightdeckbuilderforum.Very nice talking the whole weekend about all the topics about building a cockpit. I saw a lot of new things and got new ideas about improving and further building of my cockpit. If you click here you will see a lot of pics off the convention. At saturdaynight we attended the dinner organised by Matt Olieman from mycockpit.org. Thanks for the organsation Matt, and hope to see everybody again next year.

No this site is not dead, although I admit not much work was done last year, but hey this is a 10 years project. I did a lot of things with the computernetwork, upgrading graphiccards. I got rid of the wireless network. The 4 sim PC's with switch are now connected with the ADSL modem/router elsewere in the house. This gives a lot more stability for the internet connection. (needed for metars/wheather/ATC).

I rebuild my fire handles a bit. Now I have to pull them before they turn. A small adjustment but adds a lot the realism. See panelpage for more info. Next part will be building 2 seats.

The PC for the F/O has been installed and the right EFIS has been interfaced to the Project Magenta offsets. Now we have for example 2 separate altimeters, they have to be synchronized before an autoland can take place.

This week the pc's were connected to the sim and I made my maiden flights. A lot of finetuning has to be done, but from now on it is building and flying. On youtube you can see a small video of one of the first flights.

Not much progres last months. I upgraded my interface software to FSBUS-CDK, a powerful event driven language that gives enormous possibilities on the interfacecard. Today I connected all the hardware of the pedestal to the FSBUS cards. All the code worked, thanks to the virtual controls build into the compiler to test without hardware connected to it. My platform with the 2 columns is also almost finished and will be transferred to the sim room. The maiden flight is about to start in a few weeks now (I hope).

It was already christmas eve today, because I received my new CDU from Flightdecksolutions. It was the Elite version. I got the Nova version a few years ago. Their technology went a giant leap forwards in those years. The Elite version has backlit buttons and comes with a PSone screen. When I use my project magenta on a newer PC with a videocard that is OpenGL compatible, it will look even better. See the FMC page for more info.

I will sell the Nova version of my CDU, so if you are interested see the for sale page

This weekend the XX fsweekend was organized at the Aviodrome, the Dutch aviation museum located at Lelystad airport (EHLE). There were a lot of cockpitbuilders. This hobby is growing and growing every year. This year there was a complete cockpit from cockpitsonic.de and a sim with moving platform from Xesa. See here for a lot of pics. Do you recognize the 3th pic from below? (it is my overhead panel).

Got the LCD, driven by FSLCD, up and running and built into the trim panel. This gives good visual feedback about the aileron and rudder trim settings during 1 engine out procedures.

july 16th 2006

All the nav and comm radio's, ADF's and transponder were interfaced to FSBUS. And guess? It worked the first time.

march 28th 2006

The first parts of the center pedestal, the firebottle dischargeswitches were build.

march 18th 2006

Together with some flight friends, I flew the whole day in a beautifyl 737NG simulator of Brugges Air College. It even has a moving platform. I certainly will visit again in the near future.

I am in the left seat on final for EBOS (Oostende, Belgium).

Today I visited the FSmeeting in the Aviodrome at lelystad airport. I was most interested to see all the progress that the cockpitbuilderscommunity made the last 6-12 months. What a talent there is out there. Look here to see some pics of the weekend or here to read about the weekend (Dutch).

After closure of the museum the cockpit of the PH-BUK, an old KLM 747-200 was opened for al the particepants in the meeting to have a seat in the left seat. What a rather small cockpit for such a big aircraft.
