Born

19 February 1946 in Moscow.

Education

He studied until 1967 at the Music College of Moscow and from 1967 until 1972 at the Moscow Conservatory (piano under Heinrich Neuhaus and Lev Naumov; composition under Tichon Khrennikov).
From 1972 until 1975 he studied composition under Tichon Khrennikov. Now he is a teacher in composition at the Moscow Conservatory.

Style

The style of his first works was neoclassic; his first works were piano pieces mainly. His Cello Concerto (1974) was the beginning of a neoromantic period. After this period he started to use new technics in composition. The basis of his works is traditional.
