Updated 15 February 2003

Born

9 July 1967 in Sebastopol (Crimea, Ukraine).

Education

Larchikov graduated in 1986 from Simferopol Music College (cello) and in 1993 from Odessa State Conservatory (cello under Evelina Sigal). In 1994 he graduated (composition under Georgy Uspensky). Since 2002 Larchikov pursues his doctoral studies in composition at the National Music Academy of Ukraine (under Yevgeny Stankovych).

Style

Herman Hesse's "magical perception of the life" is present in Vadim Larchikov's creations. His pieces might be considered some philosophical or spiritual essays written in musical notes, so every element of his music - intonation, dynamics, timbre, etc. - has its symbolic meaning and semantic function. Meditative immersion in a sound as such and confessional openness often unites with expressionistic emotional explosions. His intonational language is mainly microtonal.
