Close-up
from a male hardground barasinga deer, a very rare deer specie. We
were lucky to photograph this one so close up, thanks to a good
wind-direction. In three trips to Kanha we never came so close before to
these shy animals. There's
just around 600 of these deer left in the wild and all of them life in
Kanha NP. Although the main interest from tourists in Kanha is focussed on
the tiger, the hardground barasinga is in fact more endangered... Kanha
NP India, 2002.
