Ngorongoro crater, Tanzania Once, in geological times, the Ngorongoro was a vulcano surpassing the Kilimanjaro, nowadays Africa's highest mountain. The vulcano collapsed and a gigantic crater, a so called caldera, was all that remained. This picture gives a chracteristic image of the crater's edge in the morning when the clouds, which were built up during the cool night, slowly creep over the edge like a huge white blanket. |
