The Sailor Boy.

It was a frosty wintemorn, the snow lay on the ground.

A sailor boy stood on the quai, his ship was outward bound.

His sweetheart standing by his side, she'd many a bitter tear.

And as he pressed her to his heart he whispered in her ear.

Refrein:

Farewell, farewell my own true love this parting gives me pain.

You'll be my own true guiding star, till  return again.

My thoughts shall be off you my love, when storms are raging high.

So farewell, love, remember me, your faithfull sailor boy.

It was in a gale, the ship set sail, his sweetheart standing by

She watched the ship far out of sight, till tears had dimmed her eyes.

She prayed to God in heaven above, to guide him on his way.

And then those parting words she heard, echoing o'er the bay;

But sad to say, the ship returned, without the sailor boy

He lost his life far out at sea, the flag was halfmast-high

And when his comrades came ashore, and told her he was dead.

In a letter that he wrote to her, the last lines sadly said:

Refrein:

Farewell, farewell my own true love.

On earth we meet no more.

We'll meet on that eternal shore,

on that btight heaven above.

My thought have been of you my love

When storms were raging high.

Now farewell, love remember me,

Your faithfull sailor boy.
