30 Seconds To Mars in Utrecht, Tivoli!
I'll tell you the story chronologically:
I wake up at about 7:15, since it's imprinted in my biological clock. (Martin
doesn't seen to have one, but okies). I make some last minute arrangements,
like add people from the Echelon forum. I meet a girl named Mayo, she says she
and her friends will wait for us at the trainstation in Utrecht, and that we'll
go together. Awesome! One worry less. I didn't have a clue where Tivoli is, and
if there's one thing I know about Utrecht, it's a f*cking mess. xD
So, by that time it was like 9:30 and our train was leaving at 10:03. So, we had
to hurrily get everything packed and stuff. We're in the car, racing for the train,
when halfway there, I realise I forgot the TICKETS. Yeah, I know, I'm a bloody
idiot. So we hurry back, I didn't get Mayo's phonenumber so I had to wait until
she'd contact me. Which happened in our other train, where she asked if I were
already at the station and I had to explain we were now going to arrive at 12:10
instead. She said they'd wait for us. YAY! *huggles Mayo*
At the trainstation, I text her saying we're there, and she said, okay, we're at
a big sign thing. So I find it, but also come to the conclusion that I haven't
got a CLUE of what she looks like. So I search the area, and I see a big
white-red Echelon shirt. I'm like "I see an Echelon shirt, let's go to them",
and there were Mayo, Anita, Rabia and GJ.
We get acquainted and make our way through Utrecht to Tivoli.
Okay, huge skip here, because in those 7 hours of waiting (xD) not much happened.
Another member joined the crew, called Jurgen, he was awesome and everything.
So... At 6pm it's finally there. The anticipation and also the regret that you've
already been there for 6 hours are starting to take hold of you. People were
starting to push and pull at each other, while, before, everyone'd been extremely
nice to each other. Such a weird experience. The next 60 minutes went extremely
slow. Slower even than the 6 hours before. And the moment it turned 7 and the
doors still didn't open, you could feel the anticipation of everyone around you
rising to a climax. I got sick, because I pick up on that quite quickly. So I
was feeling sick, minutes before the door opened. Cool. Hmmz... 5 minutes of
waiting.. A few more and then finally, the doors opened and everyone, I mean
everyone, squished everyone else into whatever direction they could manage.
Finally in, Martin and I ran after Mayo and Rabia who were going for front row
places. We were right at the front, mind you! ...
Only... I was wearing a long sleeved shirt, with a T-shirt of 30STM under it and
over that a white thing of my mum. So... I was getting so hot... After a while,
I spot Anita and GJ up on the balcony and went hmm.. How's that for an idea? So
we went there, I immediately was able to breathe and there we go. There was
no-one in at the staircase for a while, so I changed clothes. WHEE! I felt awesome
again.
After about an hour, the pre-show was on, or support band, whatever you wish to
call it. And everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, EXCEPT MARTIN!!, thought they were
awful! They were rocking like there was no tomorrow, to a sound that wasn't even
decipherable. It was just one big blob of sound that was put together horribly,
shooting at us louder than you can imagine. So, a very PAINFUL half an hour later,
they FINALLY left, since it felt like it was going on for ages!
THEN! ... Waiting, waiting.. Anticipation anticipation.. First on the stage was
Shannon!! Wearing a white mask and a red scarf. Next was either Tomo or Matt, I
think Tomo, but can't be sure.. (Sorry guys). Then, the fuckers (XD) made us wait
for Jared. We waited.. Waited.. Waited.. It took about 3 minutes, but it felt a
lot longer! And then.. He just walked onto the stage and the crowd went fucking
wild! (including me) He brought white roses (damn, I wished I'd been down there,
Roses are my favourite flower ever) and threw them into the crowd. Mayo got one.
The lucky girl. She deserves every petal of it, I'm telling you. I am not a bit
jealous towards her. At all.
The first song they did was A Beautiful Lie. An absolute wonder. They went wild,
we went wild.
And..
You know those helper people at the stage who'd help them and prevent them from
hurting themselves at a stagedive or something? Well, he was fiddling with
Jared's guitar, because the suckers didn't prepare it right (it didn't make a
sound), and Jared was just pissed off at the bad preparation AND at the interuption
of their show (yes, they did it while the show was going, but still an interuption).
So, that guy, on his knees besides Jared fiddling with Pythagoras (Jared's guitar),
and Jared literally HIT the guy in the face. I cheered so loud! It was amazing.
I think the bloke actually fell backwards! I mean, awesome.
He was right, though, because beforehand, they'd brought Pythagoras up onto the
stage to make sure it was prepped right, and it wasn't. I mean, the fuckers.
Then, somewhere along the road, that thing did start to work (because he gave
it off every bit he didn't need it).
Later, also, after a stagedive, when Jared tried to get back onto the stage,
that same bloke tried to help him by taking away Mr Jared's microphone. *sigh*
Don't they ever learn? Jared, pissed off because he was singing while doing it,
snatched back the mic and got onto the stage himself.
During The Kill, Jared started to climb onto the equipement. I thought he was
just going to stand there and sing for a while, but Jared -f*cking- Leto climbed
further. Onto the balcony. Hanging from bars and my mind went blank. Just a
feeling of basic instinct, wanting him to come closer.
And he did.
He came towards us, singing, climbing, staring at us, dealing with hands groping
him all over. And he stopped.
Right in front of us.
... I remember a thought I had: "Oh my God. Jared's right in front of me."
A couple more songs, with lots of including the fans as well, they left. Then,
the encore. Which was louder than anything before that evening. So loud, people
screaming, shouting 'we want more' (except Martin, the silly British bloke shouted
'encore').
And they came back. With... The most amazing song of A Beautiful Lie. (their CD).
Attack. This song means the most to me of all their songs. It has helped me through
some heavy stuff, depression and overall sorrow. And they played it.
That was it. We (the whole group) went to the t-shirt selling place, since that
was where they were going to give out autographs. I quickly bought a white
t-shirt with a Rose on it. I had that signed, and my Echelon wristband. The best
part of it was, the first four at the stand, which were two random girls I don't
know and Rabia and me, got to get a little chat with the boys from 30 Seconds To
Mars. Jared actually said: "Let's first get these four everything they want
signed, before letting the whole crowd get here." and so they had a bit of a
chat with us. Lovely people, honestly. After that, it was Martin's turn at some
point.
He did something special. He gave Jared a piece of writing by himself, the only
one he says he's ever been proud of. Plus he got his t-shirt signed.
Then we went outside, without many clothes because it wasn't cold anymore, at
all. We waited. And then.. Shannon came out. For photos and stuff. I got about
3 pictures with Shannon, one together with Rabia, one alone (I think) and one
with Anita. Then Tomo came out, and we all took pictures with him, then Matt.
Who is a charming little bitch. He had a chat with us and made a comment about
Rabia's eyes being 2 different colours. Of course, it took the longest for
Jared to come out, but it was well worth the wait. Everyone was waiting at the
doors (including us, but we had the best places), and Jared came out saying
"Look, everyone's going to get a picture, so if you would just step back and
stay calm". In the most casual voice ever. And by God, everyone listened to him.
Not the the big fat security guy who told us to back off at first, but to him,
oh yes.
Then.. me and a picture of him.. After that, Martin goes up to him and asks:
"Did you read it?". And Jared had remembered. He said these words: "No, but I
got it in my pocket (he showed us the piece of paper) and I will read it later,
okay?". Martin was in 7th heaven. My turn. I go: "Jared, (he looks at me.. God
those eyes..) thank you so much for my very first concert." and he says: "Oh
really? No thank you!" and his hand slid behind me, onto my back and he pulled
me towards him into a huggle.
Best part? I didn't go up to him saying: "Jared, can I get a hug?", no.. He gave
ME a hug...
About 2 and a half hours later, back at home, I was tired, exhausted and blank.
I'm in the bathroom, look at my Echelon wristband, see it signed and thought to
myself: "God.. it really happened..."
