ST. LOUIS (USA) - The St. Louis Cardinals tied a post-season record with five homeruns and won 8-3 vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of the National League Division Series on Tuesday.

St. Louis took charge of the game right away in the first inning when Albert Pujols hit a 2-out homerun off of starter Odalis Perez.
The Cardinals decided the game with a 5-run rally in the third inning (with two outs), when they added two more homeruns. With two outs, Larry Walker hit a solo-homerun to make it 2-0. Next, Albert Pujols singled and Scott Rolen walked and the two scored when Edgar Renteria hit a 2-run double, followed by a 2-run homerun from Jim Edmonds.
In the fourth inning, another homerun was hit when Mike Matheny led off with a fourbagger.
Los Angeles did something back in the fifth and sixth inning. In the fifth, Cesar Izturis and Jayson Werth hit back-to-back doubles with two outs to produce the first Dodger-run.
In the next inning, Adrian Beltre led off with a single and scored on a 2-out triple by Alex Cora.
St. Louis added a run in the seventh inning when lead-off hitter Larry Walker greeted new pitcher Giovanni Carrara (the fifth Dodger-pitcher) with his second homerun in the game. This was the fifth homerun for the Cardinals, tying a postseason record, which was established three times before. The last team to hit five homeruns in a postseason-game was the Oakland A's, who did in the 1989 World Series.
Los Angeles scored its third run in the ninth inning when Tom Wilson hit a 2-out homerun.
Winning pitcher Woody Williams pitched six strong innings.
